Customer Solution Story, Olympia, IL
Olympia School District in Central IL made a large SOLO Network purchase in 2006 consisting of 5 sites licenses to serve 2,000+ students. We met with the school to assist their technical staff with the SOLO server install process. Three staff members met with Scott Powers, Technology Director and Matt Barton, Technical Support Specialist to discuss network needs.
Customer Situation:
Olympia has a middle school and high school that are housed on one campus and three elementary schools at different sites. At the middle/ high school campus they have 2 servers with one being their main data server and the other setup as an application server. Each of the elementary schools has a local server (LAN) in their own buildings, but they also connect to the main campus via satellite/ microwave signal. The main data server houses their web services for Internet access and email as well as other primary administrative programs; all other servers are for student applications.
Customer Resolution:
The school previously had some anxiety over the install process. They believed they had to install the SOLO Network on their main server. Their thought was that the main server had the (IIS) Internet Information Service program already installed and all students at all 5 sites would need to access SOLO via one server.
We set their minds at ease by explaining that:
- The (IIS) is a web service that needs to be added to the individual application servers.
- No web configuration and setup needed to occur.
- No conflict will occur with their main web server already running IIS.
- No conflict will occur with any applications running on their server.
- Our SOLO “Network Central” is designed to be web accessible for school network staff to administer remotely.
Installation Success!
We installed the SOLO network version at the main campus to serve both the middle and high school. The installation was fast and flawless and in record time. We moved on to a client installation that went just as well. Both Matt and Scott expressed thanks and said, “WOW that was easy!” Matt will go on to each elementary school to install both server and client applications. He is extremely happy to know that once the servers are up and running he can connect to the remote schools via his Internet Explorer.
